Great Benefits Only Matter If You Use Them

Brothers & Sisters,

February is American Heart Month, and it’s a good time to remind all of you that being a union member means more than earning a strong paycheck. It also means having access to some of the best health and retirement benefits around.

Those benefits are a major part of the difference between union and non-union work, which is why we fight so hard to protect them. They provide real security for you and your family, not just today, but long after your working years. But here’s the reality: those benefits only matter if you actually use them.

For example, over the last few years, roughly 40% of eligible MPI participants didn’t use their dental coverage for even a single visit. That’s a benefit you’ve already earned and paid for. Routine dental care isn’t just about teeth. It’s closely connected to overall health, including heart health, and catching issues early can prevent much bigger problems down the road. Additionally, we have expanded mental health options and other features to improve your overall health.

Now is a good time to check in on yourself:
  • Schedule a dental cleaning or checkup
  • Take advantage of preventive medical care
  • Make sure you understand the benefits available to you
  • Research other available benefits to better keep yourself and your family health

In short, I encourage you to use your benefits to their full potential. If nothing else, these benefits are designed to keep you on the job by keeping you healthy.

New Online Store in the Works

On another note, we’re always working to improve what we do for our members, leaving no stone unturned when it comes to making your life better. In the coming months, we will be replacing our current online store with a big, new and improved change. Stay tuned for our launch announcement. We are excited to share it with you.

In the meantime, if you have questions about your health or retirement benefits or need help using them, the office staff is here to help.

In Solidarity,
