Apprenticeship Application Requirements
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
To apply, you must meet all of the following:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have a valid government-issued photo ID
- Hold a High School Diploma, GED, or HSPE
- Have completed algebra coursework with a grade of C or better, meeting one of the following:
- Two semesters or one year of high school algebra, or
- One semester of college algebra, or
- NJATC / Electrical Training ALLIANCE Online Tech Math Course (enrollment fee required)

- Be a U.S. citizen or meet I-9 employment eligibility requirements
- Be able to read, write, and speak English
- Be physically able to perform all work of the electrical trade
- Be available for the program and have reliable transportation
- When required, submit to a drug test
- Immediately notify the Apprenticeship Office of any changes to your address or phone number
- Have not taken the Electrical Training Alliance (NJATC) Aptitude Test within the last 3 months
Documents to Submit With Your Application
All applications must include:
- Proof of identification (Passport, driver’s license, state ID, military ID)
- Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. (I-9 requirements https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents)
- High School Diploma
- Official GED certificate, including graduation date or HSPE are accepted in lieu of a high school diploma
- Official, sealed transcripts that include proof of meeting algebra requirement
- Transcripts can be high school, college, or adult school
- Diplomas alone are not accepted. GED certificate, or HSPE alone are not accepted
- Transcripts can be sent using parchment or emailed by your school directly to (JATC@ibew40.org).
- Electrical Training ALLIANCE (NJATC) Online Tech Math Course certificate
- Note: other advanced math courses will not substitute this requirement, must be algebra
- Open or unofficial transcripts/certificates will not be accepted
The burden of proof is the applicant’s responsibility. No exceptions.
